I learned today that climate change is affected more significantly by deforestation and degradation than the use of energy (i.e. petroleum and gas emissions). Trees are carbon sinks: if you cut down, burn, or let it degrade, it releases significant amounts of carbon. If you plant a tree in its place, the net carbon released is zero. In Ecuador, on average 200 million tons of carbon is released into environment per year due to agriculture (agriculture implies deforestation), whereas only about 25 million tons is released due to energy (cars, emissions, etc). Robin/24/Quito, Ecuador
